Blaze Pizza is relatively new in Chicago, being open less than a year. The concept of the chain is that you pick your dough, sauce, cheese and toppings, and it's always the same price. Except- when you get vegan cheese and glute free crust, you add $5 (lucky me)!! Then they "blaze" the pizza in 180 seconds and it is served to you!
I have eaten there once before, about 6 months ago. My friends and I ordered it, picked it up (no delivery) and ate it when we got home. We could completely customize & order it online, which was nice. To be honest, mind was not good. The crust was super flimsy and thin, almost undercooked, and the toppings were charred to a crisp. Just when I think it couldn't possibly get any worse...I try it again...and Blaze totally redeemed itself! (does anyone else regularly quote Dumb and Dumber?)..Seriously though, it was like a whole new restaurant when I had it this past weekend!
My boyfriend and I had to run errands on Saturday and decided to stop on the way back because we were starving and wanted something quick. Neither of us had eaten there since our first not-so-awesome first experience. We decided to give it a second chance, thinking it should be better if we eat it there while it's still hot, for starters.
I got gluten free crust, spicy tomato sauce, and vegan cheese to start. For toppings I got artichokes, olives, spinach, mushrooms, onions, banana peppers, and sprinkled it with garlic and oregano. It was delicious!
My boyfriend's picture below, has everything that I got and he added some bell peppers and got it on the regular crust. We were both so pleasantly surprised, and will be going back very soon. I'm so glad we gave it a second chance! They have a very friendly staff, super clean restaurant, and (usually) a line out the door!
